3 Reasons Why We Can’t Wait For AU 2019

Posted by Daniel Evans on Nov 6, 2019

On November 19th, over 10,000 people will come to Las Vegas for Autodesk University, “the conference for those who design, make, and build the world around us.” For the building and media creation industries, AU is one of the largest and most important conferences of the year.

AU 2019 is looking to be another great event, with close to 1,000 classes, sessions, events, and meetups spread out over 4 days. IrisVR has been attending AU since 2014, so we know there’s always a lot of awesome stuff to see and experience—but there’s a few things we’re especially excited about this year.

Reason 1: VR is Taking Over

Did you know that IrisVR gave some of the first ever Oculus Rift and HTC Vive virtual reality (VR) demos at AU in 2014?

Stop by Booth 280 to see what we have in store for 2020 and beyond.

VR has come a really long way since we first attended the conference! At AU 2019, there are a huge variety of VR classes, vendors, events, and meetups. We can’t wait to see what everybody’s been working on, especially the classes. There are a few we have our eyes on:

Improving Safety Training with BIM and Virtual Reality Technology

This class focuses on using BIM and VR to improve worksite safety in construction.

The talk will cover workflows for providing different platforms of safety models, ideas for building in-house modeling programs for safety, and using Revit-based VR simulations in collaboration with virtual design and construction (VDC) professionals.

Speakers: Mark Stigler (VDC Engineer, CG Schmidt), Brian Medina (WI, CG Schmidt), Trevor Symbal (Student, Milwaukee School of Engineering)

Logistics: November 18th 8:00am-9:00am at Lando 4301B, Level 4

Virtual Reality in Practice: How Virtual Training Helps to Avoid Production Downtimes

In this class, Bayer will introduce how they’re using VR to enable training on packaging lines. Their goal has been to employ VR to efficiently deal with existing production issues to prevent bigger mistakes or even production downtime.

Presenters: Michael Ring (Manager CAE/Global Licensing, Bayer AG), Ines Olbrich (Plant Engineer, Bayer AG), Daniel Bosze (Lead 3D Artist, Innerspace GmbH), and Matthias Markus (Plant Engineer Manager, Bayer AG)

Logistics: November 19th 8:00am-9:00am at San Polo 3503, Level 3

Reason 2: We're on #BIMStreet

We’re beyond excited to be on #BIMStreet with our friends from BIMTrack, TestFit, Parallax Team, lodplanner, Hypar, Guardian, ClearEdge, and Chalkline

BIMTrack explains it best: "In the process of attending BIM shows all over the world, we’ve become friends (and even collaborators) with like-minded vendors. We’re proud to introduce our all-star lineup of helpful solutions in the one-stop-shop that is BIMStreet. Why? Well, to appropriate @BIMBoxUSA’s twitter slogan: Let’s make friends and help people."

Reason 3: Meeting You At Booth 280

Last but not least, we can’t wait to meet you! AU is a great place to connect and collaborate.

Last year, we gave over 200 demos of Prospect (!) and debuted a few new features for the first time, including our Navisworks integration. This year, there are more surprises in store 😉

AIA 2019

Events like AU give us the chance to share VR with as many people as possible.

Stop by Booth 280 to say hi—we’ll have several Oculus Quest and Rift S headsets, and a couple of big announcements to make.

Can't make it to Autodesk University, but want to see what Prospect is all about? Request a demo and we'll get in contact with you ASAP.
